Where did you get the info about HP warranties? That sucks...

FWIW, I've had nothing but good experiences with HP printers... we have tons of them at work and have very few issues with them. Some of the printers in our labs do 15,000 pages a month or more and have lasted 3 years with no major problems...

I will move my customers over to Epson products since they offer 1yr. I have a Epson c60 next to me and it is a nice printer.

Um, only their low end products have a 90 day warranty. The midrange 960c printers and above have a 1 year warranty as do all their direct photo printers. It's the same with their scanners. The 5400 and above have a one yaer warranty.

Their all in one flat bed printer/scanner/copier/fax models have a one year warranty as well.

Hey, leave their printers out of this! My 930C is pretty sweet for being such a bargain. 'Course, I did make the jump from my OLD Canon BJC-600e....

Their 7200e burner (that I had for the sole purpose of burning SiN, which it didn't work for---long story hehe) wasn't exactly horrible for the few days I had to "cope" with having it hooked up to my PC (via parallel port, ACK!), though. But it was a slow, HP burner after all, so it was doomed with me from the start. I switched and upgraded brands/burner. Proud 3-year owner of a Yamaha 4416s drive. :) :p

Everything HP besides their printers = MASSIVE su><0rz :D

What's your source?

Looking at the warranty from the Deskjet 995 I purchased this week, and that model has only been out about a month, it clearly states 1 year.

LJ 2200 - 1 year express exchange ... check
LJ 4100 - 1 year ... check
LJ 4550 - 1 year on-site ... check

They're all intact.

Amen to that, Bro. I had a 4200C scanner which had nothing but problems. They wanted me to pay for tech support. I took the power supply out (it worked) and put the scanner in my trash can. I then took a framing hammer and beat the POS to pieces. Then I replaced it with an Epson Perfection 1200U and never looked back. I will never buy another hp product again

I was up on the HP web site and the forums are flooded with people complaining about HP not including recovery CD's with the XP models. There is not even an option to purchase the CD's. What are your views on this?

hp.com

I forgot to add that it sems to be the low end models that are affected. However most people purchase the sub 150.00 printers.

<< . . . Epson Perfection 1200U. . . >>

That's a nice scanner. I bought one for my mom about two years ago. It was quite good then and it's still totally decent today.

<Sarcasm on>

A shorter warranty? That's great! That?s great because in our capitalist economy, that allows them to be more competitive and pass the savings on to the all important consumer.

</Sarcasm off>

They will build to lower standards and dilute their product line with low quality products, still charge a lot for high end products and coast on their name like so many other computer and consumer electronics companies before them.

The few HP products in my family's possession are the last ones we will ever buy. I was at my mom's the other day installing XP. Her Photosmart 1000 printer software and drivers were incompatible so I downloaded the XP compatible ones off of HP's website. The drivers were fine but the HP software my mother likes to use to print was not there and her printer was basically unusable. I called HP to get the heads up and was informed by the CSR that i needed to pay HP $25 in order for them to answer my question. I told the guy I needed a simple question answered as to where to find the software I needed. His reply was he could not unless I gave him my CC and paid $25. I told him that was ridiculous. He started to go on about the options I had to resolve my problem.....blah blah blah, and you can use the e-mail response system (I'm 50 miles from home and at my mom's, I needed help then not the next day!!), I cut him off and I said; "Oh, there is one more option, I will never purchase another HP product, EVER!", and I hung up on the guy. I eventually resolved the problem myself, it took a while. HP wanted to charge me $25 to tell me where to get the software and lost a customer in the process.

That's about right. Not all, but the majority of HP products are 1 year warranty now.

Just called for Tech support on some of the HP equipment we have and was required to prove our purchase date was w/in a years' time frame. Otherwise it's $25 per incident.

Also note that HP doesn't provide all of their upgrade drivers on their websit. You're forced to buy upgrade CD's from HP for $10-$12 a pop.

They're pushing service contracts.
