HP desktop, want to add an SSD but no spare SATA plug from its PSU: can I remove optical's and use its power plug with adapter for the SSD?

Well, the title basically says it all, heh.

I bought an HP Pavilion desktop and I'm very satisfied with it and now I want to add an extra SSD I have laying around but the custom PSU it uses has no spare SATA power plugs.

HOWEVER, the system comes with an optical drive which I have no need for and was wondering if I can use the PSU's SATA plug for THAT, which is similar to the regular SATA power plug but not the same, to power my SSD by way of some adapter?

Which adapter, if it exists, would I need?

Just get a sata power splitter.
While ssd drives use very little power, custom PSUs often barely provide enough power so if you get cut outs you can be sure that's the cause.

Sorry, I forgot to clarify that the HP PSU does not have any normal SATA plugs coming out of it as it uses only 1 M.2 NVMe drive for storage. The only SATA plug coming out of the PSU is the one for the optical drive, which is why I want to use it for the SSD.

EDIT: As for the power usage well I am already using said drive but via USB enclosure and haven't had any outages just yet. Would actually probably consume less power when used internally even.

Then you are better off taking a picture of the connector and showing it here because unless there is somebody that works at HP I doubt they will now what this connector even is.

HP couldn't use a bog standard SATA power cable? Good reason not to buy HP.

I've had several HP machines I got really good deals on in the past (last one was 2015), and they've all had standard SATA connectors in them. So maybe they do something in certain product lines? Not sure.

They may have change some things since then as well.

My HP "Power Gaming" desktop PC (last year's BF special for $500), has some sort of mini-SATA power and data harness for the DVD-RW, I think that it's a slim DVD-RW drive. If that's the ONLY SATA power connector available, good luck. Can you replace the PSU, OP?
