Ok, so I've got a couple problems......

#1.) Old man with ZERO tech ability.

#2.) Old man with a Deskjet 722c that he LOVES and wants to use at ANY cost! (Lord, help me)

#3.) I can do and have done the 64-bit HP spooler error patch with success on Win7/64 on his old Dell desktop that had a real parallel port & was able to plug right in.

#4.) However, on the Dell E6400 laptop I recently got him, now I need to use an adapter cable to get it working and I'm not having success.

#5.) In almost all instructions suggestion goes like this: "Add Printer(Ignoring the "only if not usb" crap)>Use Existing Port>USB001...........but here's where my problems start. Old man's laptop NEVER gives a USB port option. So I grabbed my daughter's win7 laptop and I notice hers does the same thing. WTH is this USB0001 port???

If it isn't obvious, I'm frustrated.....and tired. (I have to do all of this on TeamViewer with the old man, too, so there's that)

TIA

Seriously, I'd send him a new printer. The funny thing is my dad had this printer too and loved it. We got him a nice AIO a while ago and he didn't cry much about losing the 722c after that :)

This is a popular topic, these USB to Parallel adapters seem to be not supported even in compatibility mode with Windows 7 and beyond.

Thanks very much!!

Ya, I'm coming to that conclusion quickly. In fact, I don't even think I had it running on his desktop long enough to know if things would hiccup later & that was parallel to parallel. Add in this cable (which seems to be the crux of the issues) and it's "no-joy". :(

I hate it because I know he does love it but what else can I do. (Grrrrr!!!!)

Any recommendations for a good/cheap new one??

I'm literally 2 miles from Monoprice so ink/toner are quick & cheap for me so brand doesn't matter much, just EASY & CHEAP!!! (More than 1 button will certainly confuse the old man) ;)

Hmmmm, ya, looks good!! (Of course there are bad reviews too, but bad reviews are like buttholes)

I'm tossing between this one too...(from my other thread).....

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EANURCE/...m&linkCode=as1

Gonna investage generic cartridges for the HP. It's about $10 cheaper & if it works as well, sounds good.

What reeeeeeally caught my attention on the Brother was "easy wifi setup" which is 110% right up my dad's alley!!!!

Probably can't go wrong with either. I didn't see any epson deals out there, I like Epson a lot.
