I found an HP DeskJet 1200C in the trash yesterday and it seem to be in very good condition. The cartridges seem to be all empty. The mechanicism works, paper feeds thru, heater turns on, cleaning process works. Before I go out and spend money on new ink stuff I would like to get some feedback about this find.
1. Could it be worth spending anything on?
2. Anyone know where I could locate a manual? HP has nothing.
3. Any repair service could be recommended?

Relying on all you pros here!!!!!!

The HP 1200C is a very good printer. Around 3 years ago they were worth around $1200. Almost but not quite a color laser alternative.

I just chucked mine. Not that there was anything wrong with it but because it took up too much real estate. The printer is ok BUT, at 30 bucks a pop for each cartridge you could by a smaller, faster printer with photo quality printing and a catridge to boot! But, as each cartridge is seperate you need only have to buy the color that ran out. So, if photo quality printing is not an issue then I would say go for it, but if it is then that printer wont do.

Thanks for the replies guys. Photo is not a big deal here, for that I have an EPSON stylus color 850 and for laser I have an EPSON ActionLaser 1500 they both get the job(s) done. I was just wondering it this printer could be attached to one of my workstations as a local printer that the kids could mess around with instead of coming to my office where the other 2 printers on the network are.

I have a 1200C that I have had for about 2 years. It kicks ass. It does a sufficent job for everything I use it for and it is fast as hell. I dumped some old SIMMS into it that I had lying around and now it has 28MB of RAM. I am looking for a deal on the ethernet print server card for it, and I'll plug it right into my hub instead of having it run off my one PC via the parallel port.

EDIT: I am a retard. :| Mine is a 1600C, which is the same printer, except mine is 600DPI versus 300DPI for the 1200C.
