HP Computer Vista Recovery Space Question?

Got a Box HP Computer with Vista Premium and it has a Drive D that is called recovery.

I have to burn my own Recovery disc's and was wondering if I could delete the data that is in this recovery Drive D without causing problems after I have made the recovery disc's?

If any of your self-burned recovery disks are defective, you'll have no way to recover your system. I suggest leaving the Recovery Partition alone. Drives are cheap. If you need more space, get a second hard drive, either internal or external. Store single copies of non-critical data on the second drive, and use the second drive to keep backups of important data from the first drive.

Theoretically, yes, it should be okay to remove the recovery partition, but i do not recommend that.

It's easy to reinstall using the recovery methods built in, & sometimes wiping the HDD results in the recovery discs not wanting to install/recognize the HDD.

If anything, i'd be more concerned with the bloat HP bundles preinstalled.

Takes a crapload of uninstalling, etc. to clean up their shytstems.

I have the same sitituation: HP PC with a 160GB HDD. C: is 120GB and has the working OS: Vista Basic. D: is 40GB and contains the recovery files. I used a 250GB SATA to install XP and the 160GB is disconnected. Some basic questions:

1] I've never used a recovery HD to re-build the OS, just what is the process?
2] I'd like to use the 120GB portion of the drive, can I give that drive new drive letters and make use of the 120GB portion?
3] If I want to make a DVD of the recovery files, what's envolved?

I couldn't take Vista's obsessive protection controls and I gave up. That may change with a future SP and I may wish to try it again.

Thanks
