hp compaq dc7100 no mouse

I got one of these as a recycle deal. Months ago, I installed xp and had it up and running, with lack of internet (couldn't find the ethernet driver to save my life). It sat idle until two days ago when I fired it up for an HTPC (It does run the 42 inch tv on the onboard video...) but the weirdest thing happened. I can get the wireless keyboard to work, but no mouse (wired or wireless usb no ps/2 mouse to test with). Anyone have any idea of how to go about trying to find the reason why?
edit-forgot to mention I did install a wireless usb adapter successfully and updated the system...

Did you try looking in the bios? For the keyboard/mouse USB support and make sure it's turned to ON. That's the only thing I can think of right now. Just wake up and never had my caffeine yet.
