Hi,

I have recently experienced the following problem with my PC running Win XP SP2

When I boot up, it shows the windows xp bootup logo for about 3 seconds then it goes into standby mode, and the light on the screen turns yellow. I can't restart by pushing powerbutton, nothing happens. I have to unplug powercord and when I then restart, excactly the same thing happens. I've tried booting from external USB disk with same result. When I boot into setup, the pc does not go into standby/hibernate state. Any ideas?

Thank you.

Hi,
Hoping i am not late with an answer 🙂
My company has bought about 100 workstations like this one. All HP d530 USDT, all sharing the same problem. They boot up ok, and then die. This is caused by a malfunction of the motherboard caused by the capacitors on the motherboard that had dried out. Some of our workstations were taken back and they changed the motherboard, some were taken to service where we have asked them to change all the capacitors (17 or 18 capacitors). If you have waranty... go for it, if not do not try to do it yourself 😀

If you want to check the problem look near the CPU. there are come coils and near them are the capacitors (like small cilinders). mine had an + on the top. If they are looking like they are going to explode (bumpy top) or they have some orange (or other colour) stuff on top (in the middle of that +) it's not good 🙁

feel free to contact me via private message, i'll be glad to help!
