Have a 2 year old HP Color Laserjet 2605dn with only 5284 pages printed.

I printed color for the first time in over a year and noticed that reds appeared to be faded. Since ink supplies were at zero I purchased new toner (HP brand at $250 for all 3 colors) and replaced to toner. The problem persisted.

Went on HP site and did all of the troubleshooting tips including calibration and resetting all of the settings. The problem persisted.

Finally did a quick google search and found that many who own the 2605 series has this problem due to a manufacturing defect which allows dust to collect on the mirrors.

Called HP described the problem which they knew about but was told that I would have to pay $40 to "troubleshoot" the problem to make sure that the problem I described was the actual problem (which I know it is).

So the question is does anyone have any suggestions when fighting HPs printer support department or have any other suggestions on what to try to fix the problem without taking apart the printer?

Thanks.
