HP CM2320nf defective right out of the box

I purchased this color laserjet printer directly from hp the other day after much debate. When I received it yesterday everything appeared to be in order, fantastic print color and speed for a color unit, stand alone fax and copy which is why I made the purchase. Well everything went ok until I decided to try the flatbed scanner. Feeding a document through the sheet feed works great but put one on the flatbed and once the document gets to around the 66% mark the plastic gears go to grinding and it halts producing an error.

Needless to say I was not too happy when this happend. Tried their troubleshooting methods, power cycled, plugged directly into the wall instead of through the apc and the same thing. So I call them up this morning and they agree to ship me another new unit but only after fedex picks this one up and returns it to their warehouse. I have a 3 year next day replacement warranty that I paid extra for but since it's less than 21 days old we do it like this. I can't believe that they didn't check it out before they boxed it up at the chinese factory where they built it. I wasn't too thrilled when I saw "made in china" on the back of it. I looked hard at the xerox phaser models and now I kind of wish I'd looked a little harder. I never in my life have had a defective printer out of the box like this. Hell hp tech support even offered to send me a new top and let me replace it myself to which I promptly declined since it is a new unit and I shouldn't be going through this now. This is like selling a new car that won't move when you put it into drive to go someplace.

Plus this unit keeps on recallibrating itself every couple of minutes which I find very odd. Very sad because the color output totally outclasses the epson all in one I'm replacing. I ended up reinstalling the epson so I would have a printer during the absence of the hp. I would also like to hear from others who've had a similar experience recently from any make. I've been experiencing problematic electronics with chinese made stuff during the past several months and I'd like to know if others are having the same issues.

Mine worked fine out of the box, but every day I get the dreaded PITA "hpqddsvc" error which HP has had since Vista came out. They won't listen to that either.

Well I get the replacement from them and it works just fine with no issues so I'm happy now. I wish that I could say this from the beginning.

HP used to be awesome in the market. Now they're just one of the many options. I still like their printers, but I've been very happy with my Samsung color multi-function laser.

"Where's the QC at?"

Not at all what they used to be- Probably got laid off!

the idea is that it's cheaper for them to basically use the customers as the qc. If it doesnt work, they'll be happy to ship you a new one. The cost in shipping a replacement unit once in awhile is much less than the cost to thoroughly test everything they sell, and either way, the defective units get replaced.

Also, you seem to be offhandedly bashing chinese factories. Granted, yes, there are some low quality factories in china, but there are also some pretty good ones. And no matter who you go with...xerox, hp, samsung, etc, they're all going to be chinese made

Well I'm kinda bashing chinese made electronics because I've experienced a rash of failures during the past 5 months of their stuff. Primarily asus mb's that were made in china but other stuff as well. The percentage of failures versus the amount of products made is probably really low but since I happened to get those items..well you know what I'm saying. I know that all companies are trying to cut costs and qc seems to be a low priority but it sucks where you are the one to get the bad product.
