If you're going to go for a 1Ghz laptop, I think the Toshiba/OfficeDepot deal is better.

Toshiba Satellite 3005-S304 Notebook
Pentium III 1Ghz with SpeedStep technology
14.1" XGA TFT display
nVidia GeForce2Go video card
256MB SDRAM
20GB hard drive
DVD/CD-RW combo drive

Activate OfficeDepot 20% off $50 coupon. (thanks t3chb4rga|ns)

Not bad at all for a PIII800. I just noticed though when I was looking at it more closely and you don't get a Lithium Ion battery with it...so it'd be another $129 just for that upgrade through HP. I'm sure there are cheaper battery suppliers, but not sure how much you could save by purchasing one seperately. Anyone else got anything to say? One more point....HP does do financing on these too so it sweetens the deal if you wanted to break the payments up...nice for us college peeps with lots of tuition bills.
