I have a HP CDwriter plus 8100i. I have a generic 40x CDROM.
Windows 98.. Both cdrom and cdrw are on the same ide cable.Cd is master, cdrw is slave.
When I use Adaptec easy cd to create a single session cd it performs the test and gives me a error - buffer under runs. I have determined that it is accessing my cdrom the light stays lit. It does not matter which one is the slave or master I still get the same result. If I remove the cdrom the cdrw works fine. I swapped the generic cdrom with my creative cdrom and that combanation works fine. The generic cdrom works fine with my sony cdrw in my other computer which is identical to the first computer except for the cdroms.
Any ideals or does the HP just suck?

i don't know if this is relevant, but i've had a scsi hival cdrom not get along with my yamaha cdrw. both were terminated properly, everything was set up correctly, the two just did not get along, but both are good drives imo. if you want to keep this combination together, why not try putting the hp on it's own channel and put the 40x on the other channel. if the creative cdrom works with you hp, i doubt it's your hp. make sure udma is enabled too btw. if you can't get this to work, i guess you could swap your creative for your 40x permanently. hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice. I have the hard drive on the other channel so I do not want to put one with the hard drive. The dma is turned on. I just believe now the sony is a better CDRW imo because it will work with either one whereas the HP won't.
