wow looks like an awsome unit, besides the fact that it is an HP they make some of the worst products out there, i can remember when hp actully made great products and had the best printers by far now they just flat out suck! too bad. but nice specs though i wish i had the 2g's i would probably buy it (just make sure to get the extra warrantee)

Actually, DDR still isn't offering that much of a performance benefit to SDRAM. SiS' Chipset, when released, will have an edge on certain apps, but still only marginally faster than the others out there, namely the AMD760.

Maybe nVidia's nForce chipset will offer some real performace gain that we saw in the graphics cards as they transitioned to DDR Ram. We'll soon see.

Wow! This laptop is amazing - I was wondering how long it would take for Athlon 4's to start selling in retail stores. Great price for a high-end laptop. Athlon 4, and a DVD/CDRW drive? very nice. Anyone know how much PowerNow helps on batterlife? I've heard it's definitely better than Intel's speedstep or whatever it's called, but I was wondering how much better.

I've been working in computers for a number of years.

HP makes some of the worst laptops.....problems like quality and support come to mind.

I'm kinda busy, so I won't go into detail...

I couldn't wait on the Athlon 4 systems, so I bought a dell inspiron 8000 with a geforce card. I dont know which OEM is gonna make that pairing (Athlon and geforce 2 go), but whoever does it is damn sure gonna sell a pile of them. By the way, for those fo you interested, mine has a pIII 700 with 256mb of ram, win2k, and runs quake III with ALL options turned on @ 50fps @1024x768x32.

Talk about a handy LAN box...

theres no mobile DDR module yet (SODIMM), so you won't see it. but as soon as they can figure it out i gaurantee they'll be in notebooks because DDR uses less energy than SDR. plus... you could use 32 bit DDR instead of 64 bit SDR so theres less pins. saves space. though memory performance will suffer.

Somewhat offtopic but I saw a Duron chip in the Sony laptop. Do you guys know if that's using this is the portable versios of the cpu?

KevinH:They do have a mobile duron chip that is based off the current desktop variety. The New Athlon 4 has a brand new core and the same core is used for the server, desktop, and laptop variety. The reason why the first Athlon 4s are in laptops is due to the kickass power consumption and AMD wanted to make a bold move into the laptop arena just like they are trying to break through the server market with the 760MP chipset. Its mostly being used to replace their current K6 line since its the only widly used AMD chipset in laptops.
