This(link to press release at Intel.com on a new concept PC) caught my eye. It's a concept PC idea - presumably for business based on the appearance of the demo (a cubicle with a coffee cup in the middle of the desk).

The box itself is fairly small and unobtrusive.
The keyboard and mouse are wireless - presumably Bluetooth.
The screen in an LCD with a built-in CD-ROM and web cam.

Personally, I think it looks like a PC built for the "Lost in Space" Hollywood set. It's too retro for me. I want my PC to be less of a statement - particularly at work where all I want to be obvious on my monitor is the screen itself. I also can't figure out what the bronze button thing on the upper right of the monitor is.

OTOH, I like the idea of wireless keyboards and mice if they work like they are supposed to at all times. I really like the idea of a CD-ROM inside the monitor, so that I don't have to bend down. I like the built-in webcam, but I wish it were less obvious. I wouldn't buy it, but I thought it was interesting enough to post it here.

Anyone else have any thoughts on the PC of the future?

Edit: fixed the link... I don't know why that happens sometimes. I cut and paste the link from browser to the window. It's like UBB adds an extra bit on the front sometimes. I wonder if it's that I'm pasting a space or something. It's funny though, that right after I hit "Post", my current workstation (it's an HP PA-RISC one, so no jokes about Intel) rebooted itself and then refused to initialize NFS. I started thinking that I don't need a newly designed retro PC, I just need my current one to work.

Hundreds of wireless keyboards and mice in an office? Wouldn't conflicts be likely?

Jacklutz - hence the bluetooth. That's what it was designed for.

I like the idea but I hate the marketing spin. A 'computing element'(PC) and a 'personal element'?(Screen) WTF are they on. Obviously someone has graduated from the Harvard school of bullsh*t.

It looks damn sweet though.

Any ideas on the function of the knob-thingy on the upper right of the screen? The bronze one, not the blue webcam thing.

not if each mouse/keyboard was on its own channel. I ean, the bandwidth requirments of a mouse/keyboard arent really that demanding.
