Okay, now HP took over Compaq, so why HP still releasing their series of HP desktop and notebook products, and Compaq releasing their own series of desktop and notebook product?

I think this is just a waste, why don't they name all their products to HP?!

Opinions and Comments are welcomed!!

They want to maintain brand recognition. Compaq was number 1 until Dell took over, and I believe they are still number 2 in the market correct? I imagine HP wants to keep its name over Compaq, but you're not just going to shut down the Compaq line and expect to maintain the same amount of sales. Shutting of the Compaq line would likely mean other companies like Dell, IBM, and Gateway can take market share away from HP. I bet that HP will focus on educating consumers that HP now owns Compaq, and make the change to all-HP a few years down the road. In fact, if you go to either HP or Compaq's sites, you are redirected to a page that integrates the two lines together.

I work for HP in Germany. The reason they keep the 2 brands seperate is for brand recognition. They also want to keep offering Compaq support for Compaq customers. Some lines they will be combining. IE. No more Jornadas, now they are only going to sell Ipaqs.

Well, there's a case that when a company took over or merge with another company, they totally discountinue their product, but still support it.

Intel took over Xircom, and they still support Xircom as far as I know.

I work for compaq and Gobadgrs is right. eventually the presarios by compaq will be called HP presarios. they will merge the brand together but the pavillion and the presario are still going to exist and be as different as they are now. it's true about the jornadas, there will only be ipaqs and we have also discontinued manufacturing compaq printers also.

Because if you eliminate the Compaq name brand then you take away a choice for the customer. No one can guarantee that those previous Compaq customers will automatically buy HP now, thus risking your market share.
