HP 9700i 16x CDR $90 + tax after PM & MIR

Staples has the drive for 229.98 w/ $50 MIR.

etoyou.com has the same drive for $169.88. With a $30 off $150 coupon and the $50 MIR, the price comes down to about 90 + tax.

I'm still annoyed I missed that 12x for $35 deal. *sigh*

Staples will add shipping when you PM with etoyou.com. Ground shipping from etoyou.com costs $12. Sales tax also applies to the order before the $50 rebate. So the finial cost will be like $110. Still a good deal though.

Nothing about burnproof is mentioned on the HP website. But 8mb buffer is really large. The burner also reads 800mb disc.

I just realized the models are 9700i vs. 9710i (what they sell at staples).
They seem to be the same thing, so I'm gonna go try it anyway.

If not, there's always that Philips 8x drive @ BestBuy for $110 (pricewatch goes as low as $68) which has a $40 MIR + whatever off coupon @ staples.

<< does it have some sort of burnproof on it? >>

I'm pretty sure it doesn't have burnproof. It has an 8MB buffer instead.

LOL, I was going to look into this deal TODAY after I saw that there is a $50 rebate on this CDRW in Staples catalog 🙂 Looks like geniuses think alike 🙂

Rebate is only good on the 9710i drive not the 9700. Still would be sweet if someone could find a cheaper price for the 9710i drive else where and then pm it.

I own the 9710i It's great! I have owned HP Burners for years now.. Screw burnproof, 1. it's not a sure thing 2. you get a 16 Meg buffer you are not going to make a coaster.

In years of burning I have made maybe 3 coasters...

I had 1 plextor once.. VERY nice burner, but for the increase in price, did not make up for it.

Staples won't pricematch 9700I Vs 9710I. I tried and failed. Can you bump my response up so that others don't waste time trying to call staples. 🙁

its not a sure thing??? umm.....i have burnproof and it works great!! sometimes when i have a lot of programs running at the same time and there's some serious slowdown...i still never get a coaster...how isn't it a sure thing???

Whether you've burn proof or large buffers, you won't get coasters.
8MB buffer is large enough for you to do multi tasking while you burn your CDs. I play games(Counter Strike, Quake 3) while burning CDs in my LG 12x10x32x CDRW(8MB buffer). Just FYI.
peace!!

wyst, I'm confused, you own this drive and yours has a 16MB buffer, why does HP say it only has 8MB buffer? Is yours special?

FYI: The HP 9700 series are rebadged Yamaha 16x10x40x. The Yamaha 2100 series. It only has 8 MB of buffer and no burnproof of any sort.

Its special b/c I use nero and you can set the buffer size you wish to use.

I constantly run multiple tasks while burning CD's never get a failure.

But yes, the drive itself comes with 8MEGS which is plenty on its own anyway.
