HP 7500 CDRW and Soyo SY-K7VIA

Hi Guys,

I have a HP 7500 CD-RW and I can't get any software to recognize the drive. When i install Adaptec EZ CD it tells me that it cannot find a suitable IDE channel. I can read CD's from it but I can write. Here are my computer specs

Athlon 700
256MB RAM
Soyo SY-K7VIA Mobo
20 GB Quantum
10 GB IBM
36x CD ROM (Generic)

any ideas are appreciated.
