HP 7 in 1 reader $6.99

Thats one GOOD looking reader! Most of the readers are riced out (lights, etc) or are an ugly beige, this one has some style 🙂

Thinking of ordering.

Very clean looking card reader. I spent more than 6.99 on lunch today, not a bad deal at all. Great addition to my future rig.

id be so tempted if it was black. i just put some bezels on my beige drives to get a cleaner look and this would just ruin it >_< (want it though)

The reader I got from computer geeks has a dark blue bezel

You can always spray paint it black or use the dye method.

If you're looking for a cheap but good motherboard for a P4 system, Compgeeks also has a great price on a pretty darned nice Fujitsu SIS648FX/963L S478 motherboard that supports 800MHz FSB P4 up to 3.2GHz (no Prescott):

Fujitsu-Siemens D1675 S478 800FSB ATX MB w/SPDIF, integrated FireWire, Sigmatel Audio, and ADMTeck LAN - $29.00 (plus shipping and tax if applicable)

Compgeeks shipping charges are reasonable. While not being known for the highest performance, Fujitsu-Siemens is reputed to manufacture the highest quality motherboards in the business with extremely low failure and defect rates. If anyone finds a comparable board that sells for less than $50, let us know.

Internal USB cable to plug into Motherboard header
The card reader still must use a USB controller chip like this one. If the card reader controller is only USB1.1 compliant (and I have a hunch it is), then data rates are limited to USB1.1 whether or not the motherboard's USB controller is USB2.0.

shipping is retarded on this
Why? $6.99 + $6.00 shipping is still the lowest price around for this card reader. This HP reader can be found at several other resellers, inlcuding Ebay, and 12.99 shipped is the best price I've seen.

Buy a few of them, Compgeeks doesn't compound shipping like Newegg. There is an initial charge on the first unit that covers handling and packaging, but each additional unit increases the shipping by $1.00 or less. I put four of them in my shopping cart and computed the shipping. Same charge as for one - $6.00. Total comes to $8.49 each.

I didn't purchase any, just calculated the total. I bought five of these internal card readers a few weeks ago. Comes with beige, black, and silver face plates.
