stupid question but is a COM port and serial port the same? The docking station has a serial port but when I got to Device Manager I can only see COM 5 Intel Active Management Technology.

Where is COM1 or COM2, is it something I have to enable?

A serial port becomes a com port by usage. What number is assigned to the com port is usually up to the OS. The modem in a laptop is built in - all you need do is connect the phone line. It will find it.

Weird though, I use to have a program that uses the COM port. It worked perfectly when I had my T41 connected to it. But now that I've upgraded to a 6910p, it just keeps looking for the device as if it was connected.

Am I missing something here?
