hp 5150 usb printer wont load driver

I have an hp 5150 usb printer that works on one of my comps with xp.But I wanted to use it on my Compaq with win98.The problem is the driver wont load.It says it is installing and the progress bars go up a quarter way and never goes further.have tried new cable,reinstall of the via tech 3038 usb drivers and I even went to vias site and downloaded the 2.0 via usb drivers.Still the driver wont load in.The usb port is enabled as well.Any ideas for a fix?.....................
 
sometimes, the device has to be connected before you install, and sometimes the device shouldn't be connected till after installation.....
Try it both ways - most likely to be the latter if 9x
 
I finally got the driver loaded.I had to leave the printer power OFF not ON as the driver wizard stated to do.God I hate wizards,they dont work right half the time....................
