Does anyone have the HP 49G calculator? I just picked one up from ebay the other day and I'm having a bit of trouble trying to learn how to work it. I've read the manual, but it's still kinda confusing to me.

There's quite a learning curve to these things since it uses this RPN format. I hear it's worth it in the end though..

But if you want something simpler and arguable just as powerful, go for a TI-89.

RPN (reverse polish notation) is a bit tricky to use at first, but it is easier in the long run. My suggestion: try not to use other calculators while you're learning RPN. For a overview of RPN, check out HP's website

You can select the mode that lets you do the calculations the normal way and not RPN. That's what I did, but the graphing, solving equations, etc is still a little confusing to me.

It is worth your while to learn RPN, you can easily do much more complex calculations with RPN, it is also the key to understanding stack oriented computer languages, Lisp, Forth, etc.

Once you have used it for a while you will never want to touch a "algebraic" type caluculator again.

I got it for $131.50 including shipping, $125 without. Yes, it's brand new in box. It's a really nice calculator, but pretty difficult to learn. I spent most of the day trying to learn some of the things, but I still am a little lost.
