HP 4100 Laptop=Harddriver KILLER!!!! :(

It had worked flawlessly for years when the harddrive suddenly made a weird noise and I got a BSOD. And when I rebooted the harddrive was still making that noise. I got a new one identical to the original.. It worked for about 24 hours.. and then that one died too. I thought maybe those were bad drives (I know I was a naive idiot) (btw they were toshiba 4 giggers). I found a cheap deskstar 20 gig drive.. It lasted one day also and it was a REALLy weird sound. It didn't die.. but I am afraid to use the puter now.

Does anyone have a clue what is causing this? I've tried running off of batteries.. and withour batteries.. with the same result 🙁

If the laptop is not overheating, then I would suspect a electrical malfunction. The laptop may be sending too much or not enough voltage to the HDDs. This all just guessing. Might be time to sell it and use the money towards a new one.
