HP 10000 G2 42U Rack

This is a longshot, but I can't find my answer anywhere else.

A few years ago I bought this rack at a city auction for $100 and it's been great. I have a couple 4U servers, some rackmounted network gear, and a few random items on shelves. It's kind of ugly because it didn't come with the side panels, but I recently scored a new set of panels from Amazon for $150 shipped. The problem is that I don't seem to have all the tabs necessary to attach the panels (see page 113 of the manual).

I'm going to be loading this up with all my home AV gear and automation equipment soon, so it's going to be a lot messier looking without those side panels installed.

I'd have to take a look at mine when I get home to be sure, but I seem to recall the tabs on the G2's being welded onto the frame. Are you sure your rack is a G2?

Hmm... it might be G1. Come to think of it, it might even be a 9000 series. It has a Compaq logo on the front instead of HP, but a few of the pre-installed parts (like the top mounted exhaust fan) have model numbers associated with the 10000 G2. The color and style is also like the G2, so it's deceiving.

I only have two tabs in the lower third... which would make sense if trying to attach one large panel (instead of three smaller ones). Sh*t. I'd hate to think I've been searching for the wrong panels this whole time. I can't really complain because I've only spent $250 to date, but trial and error can get expensive if I'm not careful. Worst case scenario I build it into the wall on a slide-out track and don't use side panels at all.

All that aside, any advice for cable management? I know to keep power on one side, data on the other, but ultimately I'm a n00b at server rack (in case you couldn't tell).

If it's Compaq branded, it's not a G2. That would also explain the tabs as only the G2's had the 3pc side panels.

Regarding cable management, rail kits with cable management arms are your friend.

Thanks, fortunately I have a couple of those at least. I gave it an extra look tonight and I think I can get the panels to attach with a couple common elbow brackets and no one will be the wiser... except you. Shhhhh, don't tell anyone else! haha
