So i decided that i want to get a Hoya R72 IR filter to try and dabble in a bit of IR photography. I've seen expensive filters before, buy my god, the jump in prices between different steps is INSANE... I wanted to get the 77mm and step up from the others.

I have three lenses right now for my D70;
Nikkor 50mm 1.8 (58mm)
Nikkor 18-200vr (72mm)
Tokina 12-24 (77mm)

The Hoya R72 filter prices on ebay are as follows;
58mm - ~$40 or less
72mm - ~ $75
77mm - ~ $140

Crazyness... Retail on the 77mm is INSANE, upwards of $250.... And i thought my B+W Kasemaan MRC 72mm Circular Polarizer for $120 was expensive...

Heh, if you're buying a few IR filters in the 70+mm range, sometimes it's better to weigh the cost-benefit of getting a cheapy body and doing an IR conversion. Sure it'll cost a few hundred dollars more, but you don't have to do long exposures for one, and it's hard to justify spending hundreds of dollars on just filters that do a half-ass job.

Hmm, i dunno, a new body would set me back nearly $400....

most of the people around have commented that there are two things that are very difficult to recreate in PS, circular polarizer and IR.
