Yeah I always hear about some random good deals but the best buy here (Tucson, AZ) just has a bunch of overpriced mediocre stuff.. T_T

best buy seems like all the other retailers (high prices)

but you can usually beat them on newegg (no tax, but you pay shipping)

also if you keep up with the hot deals forum, you can get great deals with rebates at BB. ocasionally they will overlap 2 rebates and you can get stuff for free (well, the price of tax after the rebate comes back)

The Best Buy over here (Countryside, IL) isn't bad, but it's a bit on the expensive side. Rebates are just a bonus when you get an emergency part from BB.

I haven't gotten many good deals from BB for a while. Stuff is costly except on the rare sale or free item. Oh, and all the BB's I've seen have one story.

The one where I live, Markham, Ontario, Canada, is pretty big, but all the computer hardware is overpriced and selection is fairly small.

The only things I buy regularly are movies and music discs.

Maybe they'll have some stuff during a big sale (i.e. Boxing Day), but they didn't have anything I wanted last year so I doubt they'll have anything this year (last Boxing Day I think they had a 'sale' on the Radeon 7500...and it wasn't even that cheap, like $70 or $80 CAD plus tax for a two generation old card).

In Tucson we have two of them. Both are fairly well stocked - I like them better that COmpUSA. But - now Circuit City has them both beat on selection and price - also ease of access. My closest BestBuy! requires a U-turn on a busy street for me.

But - I only use any of them for "must have" quick solutions because of the 7% sales tax. Not good for big ticket items. Itry to get all my computer stuff on line - no tax and free shipping. I expect that loop hole will be closed in the near future. But - in the meantime . . . :)

The only one I've ever seen with 2 stories is that one in Cambridge (at the Cambridgeside Galleria, just across the bridge from the Museum Of Science T stop on the green line). But that's in a mall, so they didn't have much choice (and it's not like they can build a new store in the middle of Boston). I've been in at least half a dozen others in 5 different states, and they're all 1 story.

They just opened a new one in Seekonk, MA, and it's terrible. It's about half the size of most of the ones I've seen, so they have a lot less stuff in stock.

Generally, I like them for lots of things, but not usually computer hardware unless they have some crazy rebates going (which they do from time to time). CompUSA usually has better prices overall, in my experience (although the 10% restocking fee is a pain in the butt when something doesn't work right). BB did have much cheaper network cables when I was looking for some last week, though...

I'm not sure why everyone thinks BB is the shit...perhaps because they sell so many computers to ignorant yuppies?!?! BB's selection is horrible. BB's prices are....well....MSRP. Every week the BB add is full of MSRP...not what I'd call a "deal." Even when they have rebates on hard drives, vid cards, chances are you can get a better deal at Office Max/Depot or Staples by pricematching and using coupons.

Best Buy is okay for getting the occasional emergency part or if there happens to be a great rebate or sale on something. Other than that, it is pretty much worthless. Also, isn't it weird that best buy sells Artic silver 3 yet doesn't carry any form of precessors?

Mostly everything is overpriced, they always have wireless stuff on sale though.

And of course love to screw you over every once in awhile.

my best buy (moorestown, NJ) never has any hard drives / video cards in stock. they always seem to have good deals in their catalogs but never seem to be able to produce when i get there.

they have the best DVD selection though, which is the only reason i go there

Except for an occational sale I no longer do business with Best Buy. I can usually get things online cheaper and I don't need to fight the crowds there and deal with poor customer service.

Its because its convenient.

BTW stickybytes, there's a BestBuy in Yonkers, about 20min out of the city, that has an OK selection, but prices are never really that good. I've never bought anything there (usually find stuff way cheaper on newegg) and their staff is retarded (I'm planning on applying there later this year as a Comp tech and hopefully teach them all a thing or 2). BestBuy is only good for the A/V stuff, ie: DVDs/Players/Home Audio, but you can usually find it elsewhere for a little bit cheaper. They're only good for those who are lazy, misinformed, or just plain stupid. I tend to stay away from BB unless I absolutely need to.

They also have a great CD collection. I recently bought 2 long searched for albums, Cyndi Lauper - She's So Unusual, and Limp's (not Bizkit, I dont like them) last album before breaking up, Limp - Limp.

Their DVD and CD selection is far superior to any other retail store, and they have decent prices as well. As for computer stuff... look at newegg
