I get golf and bowling mixed up.

I always shoot a high score in golf ... and always bowl a low score.

That much money can get you a 45 lesson with an average pro for at least 2 months, probably more. If you have a lesson Sunday, hit balls twice or three times during the week, and play Saturday, you'll cut your handicap in half or better. The key is making the most of your lessons, practicing in between, and taking notes on swing thoughts right after the lesson. If you won't be able to hit 200+ balls in a week between lessons, have lessons every 2 weeks.

OK, I'm rambling here. The main point is that expensive, brand-name clubs are overrated. 98% of the average golfer's difficulties are user-related :)

It's so true eh? About the lessons? They are obviously the biggest catalyst :))) for bringing about changes in your game. Through about 10 years of mostly hacky golf, I've only had 1 lesson!!! And since I was a member this year, all I did was play play play, no range time and I considered playing 9 holes a "practice round" but it doesn't really work that way. That's why this coming season, the first thing I want to do is sign up for some lessons. I want to develop a swing that I can count on and try to start enjoying the game more. It's all about having shots in your bag... if you can say with confidence "I can put this 250 yards out there, maybe not right in the fairway but pretty close", you're going to have a lot more fun. Same goes for the approach shots... I am usually happy if I am within 10-15 feet of the green, that way I have a chance to get up and down for par. Then again... sometimes even 2-putting consistently can be difficult for everyone.

Great thread meltdown75. Oh wait that's me. ;)

I'm a 10.
I actually had my best summer ever including two rounds of 73, one 74, two 75's, one 77 and five 79's. I also had a few rounds in the 90's. Being consistant is my biggest problem. I'd rather shoot 80 everytime than shoot 74 and follow it up with a 92 the next time out.

My best moment ever as a golfer is withou a doubt

Inconsistent at best. I've got the ability to shoot in the high 80's. I'll have 12-14 excellent holes and then just completely break down and shoot like 9's on 4-6 holes.

Doh!

Sadly my golf game is mostly on the shelf. Here in the northeast good weather at this time of the year is hard to find. It was a tough year overall, hit the ball really well and putted poorly up until the last couple of weeks. Finally fixed a problem with my address and got hot on the greens, but it was too late to turn in scores for handicap purposes. I finished 2003 at a +1 and this year slipped to 0.8, nearly 2 shots a round higher. That was REALLY frustrating as I hit the ball better in 2004 than in 2003 and got nothing out of it. Have been working really hard on my carpet putting to keep my alignment correct and am looking forward to spring 2005.

j/k
I actually did shoot 58 once ....

on a par 3

When I swing a club, the ball often ends up behind me. That pretty much sums up my golf game in one sentance.
hah. I've got you beat there. I've actually hit MYSELF with the ball before at a driving range. The ball was sliced so badly off the initial swing, it richocheyed off the protective barrier to the adjacent stall and smacked me straight in my right ear. Stung like a mofo, and uh quite embarassing. The guy next to me moved promptly.
