How's your golf game?

No I'm not talking about Links or Tiger 2005.

Who else here plays? It's been over a month for me due to crappy & cold weather etc (I play hockey in the winter!) but I don't miss it yet.

This was a decent season for me, I got my handicap down to about a 13 and I shot my all-time low round which was an 81 (twice). Not that good, but, getting closer to the 70s. It was also my first year as a full-fledged member at my home course.

I'm still playing with a set of irons that were second-hand to begin with, I brought an old set into a pro shop to be regripped, and they sold me a used set with new grips for cheaper. Then the guy offers me FIVE BUCKS for my old set!! 😀 um, no thanks i'll keep em. ehehhe yeah... I definitely think I would benefit from new irons, but I always said I won't get them until I break 80... what's the use??

Also, what are the courses like in your area? I live in Southwestern Ontario so the options for me are pretty decent. We have about 30 courses within 45 minutes of where I live ranging from hacker tracks to excellent courses.

Well, just thought I would stir up some golf talk... heck maybe I do miss it already... fore

i can shoot really well, i just cant do it for a full round... at the course by my house i go to i've gotten at least a par on every hole except one, just i never do it all at once... it so frusterating... havent played in quite some time, since school started, i got too busy...

I work on a PGA tour course, and have worked at a few private clubs. I get great golf for free, but only partake because I know I really should take advantage. I play while drinking so I'm in the 90s (not embarrasing, but not impressive). All time best was being 8 feet from the pin in 2 on a par 5. I was off the green in the rough, so I missed my eagle, but got the bird.

When I thought of golf as a game, I used to shoot in the low 80s.

Now that I think of it as an excuse to drink, I still manage to come in under 100, but often not by much.

I'm not great, but I don't suck either. I have extremely long and accurate drives, but my short game sucks. I overshoot the green a few times, then when I get on the green, I overshoot the hole a few times. :|

I didn't play as much as well I would have liked this year. Only played twice after school started. I also didn't try out new courses like I usually do. Next year I'm definitely getting new clubs (I've had mine for about 4 years now).

I used to golf all the time in high school but haven't golfed in a while (5+ years). Back then my handicap was 15.

I have played since I was 13. I am over double that now. I shoot about 83-86 per round on average. This year, due to family obligations. I only played 3 rounds but 2 out of three ain't bad. I shot 75 (personal record), 78 (really good) and 90+ (really drunk after birthday).

The best thing you can do to your golf game is the following:
Drink AFTER the round.
Get some real wedges. Get a gap, sand, and lob wedge.
Good driver is a plus, but a waste if you can't handle the short game. Short game first.

Sweet, I am glad to see a few quick responses.

You know what is awesome for us 80-95 shooters? Short game practice. Honestly, if you can just get up and down around the greens, you will be getting bogeys at worst (unless you had some trouble along the way). I was chipping early one morning this past summer, getting ready for the weekly Sunday morning skins game. One of the greenskeepers was cutting near the chipping green and stopped for a bit just to chat (he's a friend of mine, and my Dad's). He said, "so you're getting serious aren't you? because this is where all the scoring is done.. once you figure that out, you'll improve big time" or something to that effect. And he was so right. My putting has always been my strength, but now that my chipping is starting to get deadly, I find myself getting mad when I bogey instead of being okay with a bogey. Hell of a game though. I can't see myself ever quitting, and I didn't even start until I was 18 or so. Up until then it was hockey, hockey & more hockey. It's nice to get out on the links, crack a beer and light a smoke.

Summer, come back.

At my summer peak I play to about a 4. Usually around 80 from the tips at the course I play most, but it's tough (74.5 or so course rating), so I can usually go lower when I play elsewhere.
Top rounds: 2 70s, a 71, a few 72s. It's all about playing day in and day out. Most of my top rounds are from vacations on the first time I've seen a course, mostly because I get to play more often on vacation.

As long as you have halfway decent clubs with shafts that are right for you, $500 spent on some lessons or clinics in 10-times better spent than $500 on clubs. That much money can get you a 45 lesson with an average pro for at least 2 months, probably more. If you have a lesson Sunday, hit balls twice or three times during the week, and play Saturday, you'll cut your handicap in half or better. The key is making the most of your lessons, practicing in between, and taking notes on swing thoughts right after the lesson. If you won't be able to hit 200+ balls in a week between lessons, have lessons every 2 weeks.

OK, I'm rambling here. The main point is that expensive, brand-name clubs are overrated. 98% of the average golfer's difficulties are user-related 🙂

I actually did shoot 58 once ....

on a par 3

When I swing a club, the ball often ends up behind me. That pretty much sums up my golf game in one sentance.

sell your clubs online.....golfclubexchange and places like that will give you a better deal then a pro shop or ebay

i've been playing about once a month since i was 12 and i am 20 now...

i can consistantly shoot in the low 80s...high 70s probably once a year 😛

It also sums up your spelling skills in one "sentance" 😛
(I kid, I kid)

I was on my high school varsity golf team through out high school. I would usually shoot in the mid to low 80s. I didn't really take it that seriously to get into the 70s, but I wish I did because I could of been playing for college. Now in my freshman year of college I havent really had time to hit the links at all.

I'm on varsity at my high school, mid 70's to low 80's usually. My dad owns a golf course, so I get lots of free golf.

Its cold and wet around here at the moment, so I usually clear all the golf carts out of the barn, kick on a couple space heaters and grab a range mat.

Ok, back to coding,

E
