Hows Timberland when it comes to hiking shoes?

I just ordered these from Timberland last night since they're running 20% off and free shipping right now and I needed a pair of hiking shoes there were waterproof.

Anyone know or have personal experience with their hiking shoes?

At that price (even with the 20% off), I think you could have done a lot better with a pair of Merrells.

Well just a quick search shows that their Gore-Tex line cost more than these do before the discount.

I think they've managed to keep that stuff pretty separate from their outdoor lines lately.

I agree in general, but Merrell's quality has been going downhill lately. I have a pair of Merrell gore-tex hikers and while I love them, they feel cheap and the eyelets are made of cheap canvas...I've broken 2 out while tightening my laces.

I'm no heavy duty hiker, but that's just what I've noticed lately.

I think that's just the "hatin" talking. Even though timberland now has styles for the urban market, i don't think their quality has degraded a bit.

Hmm... I haven't noticed that issue with my Merrells. And their comfort is like sex.

I had a terrible quality pair of Timberlands about 10 years ago and just recently (January) gave them another shot and have been very pleased with these.

I bought mine locally for fit, have been wearing them almost nonstop for 8 months and they still look great.

i bought a timberland jacket from the timbahland outlet in newport rhode island.
it was no better made than the sterns shell i bought from china mart.

I agree, the Merrell shoes I have owned are very comfortable. Did a day hike this past weekend in the rain in the Catskills in mine and I was the only one not complaining.

It may just be the pair I have, they use those little canvas or cloth loops for the shoelace eyelets instead of rivets. It just really ticked me off when I tightened my laces and heard "pop pop" as 2 ripped out of the shoe. I may also be influenced with Merrell's heavy plunge into the fashion market as well...but perhaps I'm suffering from the same prejudice as ncircle.

Well I have a pair of dress shoes from them and have been happy with those, but was wondering about their hiking line specifically.

I've got a pair in my closet that are close to worn out.

They've been great boots imo, fairly light, with just enough cushion and ankle support.

I was about to post the same thing. Also, my Gore Tex REI hiking boots (Raikley made) cost $100 since they were the previous year's model. I don't even think of Timberland as an outdoor gear company.

And what does a jacket have anything to do with hiking boots? That's like saying Tommy Hilfiger clothes suck b/c you didn't like the way the cologne smelled, lol.

They're not hiking boots, but I've owned 2 pairs of these over the past 10 years and they've lasted until the soles wore out. For boots, I buy nothing but Timberland.
