It's like having a Ferrari and driving it on the most bumpy road ever with a 30km/h speed limit :p That pretty much sums up using a HD48xx or a GTX 260 together with a single core A64 at those clocks.

You can OC a P4 to 4-ish GHz. It's a nice OC, but that still won't make a good processor out of it. Same for an A64.

wow you guys are taking the OP and slaughtering him. Not nice. :

OP, thats a very good OC for that chip. You should play with it more and see if you can squeeze 3.0ghz. :D

Others, you wanna compare chips with the OP, compare mine with yours too please. Not everyone can afford nice stuff, and if your under that assumption, you should be ranking your hardware with mine.

Well, the OP wants to buy a 4850 or a GTX260 and what does he use as his CPU? A single core A64. If we keep tapping him on the back and say *Wow man, that's a wicked OC on such an awesome CPU* he might believe it in the end. And that wouldn't be fair towards him, now would it? Not to mention a GTX260 and a 4850 are two different classes of cards (but that's another topic).

And it you want to stick to the affordable part, well, he can afford a 300$ graphics card but can't spend 200$ on a mobo and a new CPU (he can reuse the RAM)? A GTX260 or even a 4850 will be so bottlenecked by an A64 that it will slit it's electronic lines wide open the moment a 3D app starts.

An E7200 and an Abit or GA Lite board ain't things one would consider pricy and not affordable if the same person wants to buy a high-end card anyway.

Anyway, I didn't bash him in the first place. The thread itself seemed weird to begin with (it's like someone posting their P4 OC). And I did have a P-D before, so no, it's not "the newest, greatest and most expensive" is the best only :)
