throw in a 256 MB Crucial PC2100 dimm
and a video card of your choice, and you'll be set..

Thermalright SK6 for your heatsink, if you are getting an OEM cpu

your setup sounds great! the only thing is the motherboard - i might investigate the soyo or the epox. as far as the heatsink and video card, i would get an alpha pal8045 and a radeon.

edit: what case? id go with an antec. great cases.

Opps forgot about some stuff

Got the Antec 1030
256MB PC2100 DDR from Crucial
SVC Golden Gate for HS
Geforce 2 Pro from my current system

Its going to be my first system, I am pretty sure I can pull everything off, only thing that gets me worried is applying the heatsink to the processor. With AMD's heating up so fast I hear they can burn out in just a few secs, so I hope i correctly apply it

excellent case, great memory, and vid card sounds great (especially since you already have it ;)) is that golden gate already purchased, or is it the one that you are planning on purchasing?

already purchased, Only things left to purchase is the motherboard, CPU and Harddrive.
I just want to get it running, and then later when I get some more cash get a burner, some new speakers, NewQ and a controller card. There were great reviews at the time I got the golden gate and SVC had some promotion so I got it.

I am not planning on OCing it too much, maybe just a little, but that means I gotta unlock the XP which I heard was more difficult then the ole pencil trick for the Athlons

what fan do you have for the goldengate? it should suffice for light overclocking. just watch your temps.

yes, the pencil trick will no longer work for the xp's. you will either have to overclock by bus speed alone, or do a little work. your choice of hard drives is a good one (in my opinion) and as far as the motherboard, the shuttle should serve you well, but if you are gonna be doing any overclocking, i might look in to the epox or soyo.

I am not sure what it is exactly but it was the quitest one out at the time I believe. Right now I am on a dell with just 2 case fans and when I build my new comp it'll have 4 case fans so I am hoping it won't be too loud. Got my fans from bestbyte, there the topmotor brannd, I think there 41CPM and 34Dba. Hoping to order tommrow or tuesday and get it by friday since I am not to far from them. Build it on saturday. So your sayin w/ the XP I can still OC the bus just not the MP w/ out unlocking it?
