I will be using it with this (my new rig)
Q6600
Abit IP35-E
2X1GB corsair DDR 667
7900GT
160GB SATA HDD
SATA DVD-RW
Antec P182

I will be overclocking this setup and im currently scared to use my old psu as its not really a reputable company.

any other recommendations for an inexpensive psu? I know its not something to skimp on but I have very little funds after this big uprade 😱

The eXtremePower 500W is enough for your system (I built for a friend a Q6600, ASUS P5K, 8800GTS, etc. using it). But it is very noisy, the FAN spins really fast even at IDLE. It is not very efficient too...

The OEM for that unit is Seventeam model ST500BKP.

Is it a risky psu though? I don't want it blowing up and takin my rig with it...

This PSU sucks, it's loud. I just put mine in yesterday. I paid the same price after rebate so it's not even worth RMA'ing. Save yourself the money and look for something else. I plan on replacing the fan since I can't return it anymore (UPC removed).

It isn't going to blow up, but yes it's loud, but it should power your rig, seeing you don't have a really high-end videocard. As soon as possible, I'd buy something like corsair 550vx for 57$ AR at buy.com though.

The quality of the unit isn't in question. I seriously doubt it's going to blow up, etc.

What's in question is it's capability to do 500W. On top of that, it's ability to do so quietly, efficiently, etc.

I have one they are loud & if you get lucky and find one that does not rattle! Using it now till I get something better.

The fan grill in that PSU is installed upside down. It hits the fan because of that.

If you flip the fan grill it stops vibrating. I did that...

i dont agree with marcvenice on the sound...

i have the 550w vesion, and i can't hear it over the fan on my zerotherm heatsink...

they are not exactly the same units, but looks like the same fan...

the word loud very very subjective....
Loud compared to what on your PC?
Loud because you can hear it aat all?

You will need to decide what your definition of loud is and take it from there!

When discussing subjective matters, it is good to give a point of reference...

I did, I said i can not hear it over the fan of my heatsink (zerotherm)...

I'll give a better reference, I can not hear it all when my zerotherm BTF92 OC edition...

So I lowered the fan on the Zerotherm, and I can say, you could not hear this PSU from 10- feet...

When I first purchased the 500watt it was fairly quiet but as time has went by the fan has gotten louder and starting to rattle or make a ticking sound. I had a 460 watt Vantec ION supply that I wished I would have kept 🙁 You can hear this supply from across a 15' room.

I've got the 650w version, and I could hear it over ALL my components. Maybe it was a stand-alone issue, but many people have reported loudness with Extreme Power series from Coolermaster. The fan in the PSU which I removed didn't seem to be of high qaulity either btw.

I have the 550 and it's quieter than a stock Intel HSF (for what it's worth....those are pretty quiet to me).

£5? What a joke - You cannot get this PSU for less than £40 here ($70). It is not that loud, and if you are not using 3rdparty/custom cooling on your 7900 you would not hear it.
