Hows this look? AMD OC Setup

So after some research and some browsing this is what I have come up with, just double checcking to see if i should change anything.

All from new egg:

AMD ATHLON XP 2500 "Barton" 333 FSB PROCESSOR CPU- RETAIL - $96
Epox Motherboard for AMD Athlon/Athlon XP/Duron Processors, Model# EP-8RDA+ - $86
Buffalo Technology 512MB 6 Layer PC3700 DDR Memory Module 32X8 (Winbond Module) - OEM - $99

Is there any reason for me to get $150 corsair ram? Ive heard good things about the buffalo sticks.

What can I expect out of this? 2.4 ghz?

Thanks in advance

Good heat sink (slk800/900 perhaps), fans (your own input),& psu (good rated ones,enermax/antec) are still needed. Plus the cpu is a toss up since not all 2500+ can reach those speeds.

That's will make for a sweet boxen 🙂 2.4ghz is possible but probably too much for the stock cooler, I just picked up the retail Barton 2500+ and it's doing 2.2ghz, 200fsb on less than default voltage (actual) and handled a Gromacs WU all night like butter among other stress tests so I'll shoot for 2.4ghz today. LMK if you're interested in the results. It's a AQXDA 0313WPJW so it appears to be a favorable stepping so far.

I am interested in your results, when did you order your barton? Im moving from a tbird 1.2 setup so I figure ill notice a lot!

I have a thermal light sk-7? maybe something like that. I also have an enermax psu.

But will the buffalo 3700 get the job done?

Thanks again. Ive been out of the hardware and ocing for a long time so I dont know what Im talking about anymore.

the Buffalo should be fine even if all it can do is run it's rated speed, and a SK-7 with a good fan is a very good cooler so stick with it. I bought my Barton Sunday evening and it arrived from da Egg yesterday. You should get a good stepping if you get the retail now. As to noticing a difference.....you'll be :Q when you put it in a NF2 board and see the difference.

I've heard of a number of folks who had problems with the Buffalo memory - but they may have just been complaining about poor overclocking results.

I talked him into the OCZ stuff 😉

I'm using an SK-7 with a crappy fan and it still cools very well. Look over my profile and rig if you wanna know more about my setup.
