hows the ultra 120 extreme on a qx 6700 quad core extreme?? can i do maybe 3.6 to 3.8 ghz with 1.4-1.45 volts with this heatsink? (its arriving soon, default clock of qx6700 extreme is 2.66ghz). I heard some issues of concave bottom of the ultra 120 extreme, so its not flat??? so i just fill up that space with paste if there is any to begin with, right???

No you don't just fill up that space with paste. The bottom is concave for a reason as far as I know. But if you want to get rid of the concave bottom, then lap it, and lap your IHS while your at it. 3.6ghz MIGHT be doable, 3.8ghz will be pushing it. I'm guessing you'll need 1.45v to do 3.6ghz.

lap great... how do you lap. is it even nessesary, cant i just install the heatsink the old fashion way with paste. this is supposed to be an extreme 2.66ghz quad, garbage cpu cant even do 3.8 its pushing it LOL>>>

LoL, the higher the stock speeds the harder it will be to push it more then 50% higher. As for lapping, well, there are several good lapping guides to be found, it's not to hard to do, but you've gotta be patient. Temps can significantly increase after lapping though, and when you aim for a really high overclock lapping might just be the way to achieve it, whilst keeping your CPU cool. You could start with reading this one for example: http://forums.anandtech.com/me...keyword1=lapping+guide

Btw, you could, and I would, just install the 120 ultra extreme and see how it performs when you've reached 3.6-3.8ghz, IF the cpu can go that high. If temps are to high, you know what to do to get them down ^^

Hate to burst your bubble, but I doubt you'll be runing that QX6700 @ those speeds with air on a daily basis.
But, good luck

ahh so lapping in lame terms is basically scratching the surface of the cpu with sandpaper so the heatsink can be a bit closer to the insides of the cpu.

omg all cores were at 80c, going up to 81c, 82c. i stopped prime 95 after that, freaked me out. Prime was running for like 30 seconds before temps skyrocketed. i need that ultra 120 extreme badly. (core temp 0.95 monitor temps.) I hope 81c-82c for all 4 cores dont damage the cpu, it was only for around 10 seconds lol.

Umm, Marc meant temps can significantly decrease after lapping, right Marc?😀

Yeah I ment decrease ... Was mixing positive/negatives up 😛

And Johndoe, why is it so important to hit 3.6-3.8ghz, you in a big epenis contest with a buddy of yours? If you want to run a qaudcore 24/7 on 3.6ghz or higher, I think water is the way to go. Be prepared to spend around 300$ on that too, not to mention the modding you might have to do to make your case suitable for water.

Well, speaking for myself, I have a ultra120 extreme lapped (not NOT lap my CPU) and its running 3420 stable 24/7@100% load 1.36 vcore, 58c temps.
