How's the traffic on I-65 between Indy and Louisville?

I need to get between Indianapolis and Lexington. Mapquest says taking I-65 to Louisville is faster than I-74 to Cincinnati. But what's the traffic like on I-65 with it being a main north/south route? Is it just 2 lanes each way the whole way?

It can be pretty heavy at times-two lanes alomost the entire way. L'ville to Indy is about two hours.

Eww, thanks. I think I'll go through Cincy unless it's a Sunday night, when traffic shouldn't be bad.

I'd take I-74 out of Indy to the I-275 bypass around Cincy and head down I-75. Better road than I-65, but still 4 lanes most of the way.

There's construction all the time and accidents. I don't know if they are done with the MAJOR construction at the KY/IN border.

check the traffic routes by searching "traffic kentucky"

Other than that it's normal "traffic"

-edit- reread your OP, either way would probably be about the same. 1 hour from lu-vul to lex, 1 hour from cinci to lex.

Yeah I-74 is a nice road, not much traffic at all. If everything was equal I-65 would be better because it is 70 MPH speed limit for a significantly farther distance, but it seems traffic is so much higher than I-74 I probably wouldn't be able to take advantage of the speed limit.

Sweet, didn't know about that.

just gotta learn how to drive I guess.
:D

Watch out when you're in KY, they're out in full force on both interstates.

Just travelled that route last Monday (labor day weekend) - even with the heavy tourist traffic, it was quite easy, no problems.

:p I've been taking it easy after getting a ticket in Utah in May...damn instant-on Ka. At least that one was just for 80 in a 65. But still, it's Utah. There shouldn't even be cops.

They're all over northern Kentucky too. It's worse than Ohio. I've even started mounting my radar detector low to hopefully give me a chance of picking up a laser hit, since it seems like they use laser more than radar around here. Hell I might pick up a ZR3 when I get my new car in 2 years.

As for the route, I'll be doing Lex -> Indy on Friday evenings and the reverse on Sunday evenings probably once a month or so. I think the first time or two I'll go through Cincy on Friday since it seems like it won't be as bad with heavy weekday traffic, and then Sunday I'll run through L'ville.
