some friends and i were thinking about starting a muffin company... just wondering if anybody here has experience in this industry / has advice, etc... we haven't put a tremendous amount of thought into it yet, we're just investigating the possibility... so we were thinking of having a storefront like krispy kreme or starbucks, people could come into relax and have a muffin or order a big bunch for a party or something...

Within the next few years, I am planning on opening up a bakery/cafe/chocolatier somewhere in Los Angeles. I have a couple girl friends who are fantastic bakers, and I will be getting a patisserie education/degree by the time the plan comes to fruition. :)

If you were to bake only muffin tops, you'd have some serious business.

What would they do with the stumps?

are they war veterans?

Booooooooo!!!

:D

Sounds like ti could be a good idea... check out your area.... see what's easily accessable..

you'll just want to figure out what type of clientele you want to attract, as I'm sure you don't want ... muffin-rats (?) hanging around not buying anything..

Correct! I have heard that after a while, the homeless will get mad and start asking about the muffin tops

Well, if the homeless don't like them, the homeless don't have to eat them.

It's a tough business. Most bakeries use stuff that comes frozen or in drywall buckets.... it's cheaper. It's hard to compete making stuff from scratch.

There is a nice markup on coffee, though. I recall reading where 20 percent of seven elevens business is coffee.

I don't really see your business model.

Just muffins? There are many out there already doing it and offering more (Panera, etc.).

Are you trying to exploit a market area that is underrepresented by food service?

Or, did it just sound cool?
