How's the IT market for entry level positions in Texas?

Sorry about all the job threads guys, I'm just at the WTF AM I DOING point in my life. I just quit my "technical support" position at a callcenter to take on that helpdesk position, some people are telling me it's a good move, some people are telling me it's a bad move (pretty much similar to ATOT's concensus in that last thread). What do I want to do? Programming. Database management. Network management (i guess network admin) would be really cool too. I dunno, "support" (with a headset on 24/7) isn't my thing..it's not what I went to college for.

My parents live in Dallas Fort Worth (Texas)..my sister suggested moving down there as it's unlikely the market's as flooded there as it is here in NY/NJ.

Any useful suggestions are appreciated....

search an online job site and see if there are lots of openings in the area you want to relocate to.

I would suggest you find a new job in the area you want to be at before moving there.

Not sure about Dallas, but Houston and Austin are good to look in so I figure Dallas should have a ton of opportunities too. Try dice.com.

Plenty of jobs, but more applicants. Lots of competition, you better be good and have some credentials and experience

Austin has some nice positions. Texas is a big state, so you will find something somewhere. Do the help center thing, while looking for a better job.

dice.com is a great job finder!!!! As long as you keep your resume updated and you keep doing contract work, you get a lot of calls. How was you GPA? How good are you at programming? Do you do any contract work right now to hone your skills? All of this is important. Because experience is key to getting a job.

You could always use sourceforge.net and help program something open source. That can help your resume.
