How's the GeForce2Go 100?

My brother's thinking of getting this Dell Inspiron 8100 and using it as his main computer when he moves, but I was wondering how the performance in games would be like.

I noticed on nvidia's site that the 16mb GF2Go 100 that it comes with only has 32-bit DDR, so I'd expect the performance to be terrible. Would it be able to run Counter-Strike decently(the only game he currently plays)? I'd get the Mobility Radeon 7500, but it'd be $170 more(because of the required upgrade for the screen). Does anyone's laptop have the Geforce2Go 100, and how's the performance? Thanks

I have one with the G2G and it plays CS fine. It even plays RTCW and MOH fine. You might have to set the resolution down to 800x600.

It's 'acceptable'. It's quite a bit slower then the regular GF2 Go but you should be able to get above 30FPS at 800x600x32bpp in CounterStrike. You may have to drop to 640x480x32bpp depending on what processor he chooses in the Inspiron though.

As long as 30-35FPS is adequate you should be satisfied with the MX100. Anything newer then CounterStrike won't really be playable though, even at 640x480.

Thanks for the responses guys. Well he went ahead and chose the Mobility Radeon 7500, I don't think he'll be disappointed:D

I figure it'd be pointless to spend that kind of money for a laptop that's faster than his desktop and then barely be able to run an older game. What is this 640x480 you speak of;)

That's a much better way to go, IMO.

I'm actually thinking of upgrading to the Radeon 7500 or the Geforce 4 Go sometime soon.

Yes, you can upgrade the video cards in the Inspirons. :)
