I am planning on buying a new printer, and I know this guy who can get me a brand new Epson Stylus Photo 870 Printer for a hundred dollars, but I dont want to buy it if the quality of the prints arent good, it will just be a waste of my money. I am only a student, and I dont need the photo option, but thats what he offered.

LuNoTiCK, I bought one from amazon, LINK photolab quality. The inks cost less, and are much less if you price match with onvia to staples and use a discount coupon code. A new version of this printer, the photo890 is now replacing the 870. I wonder how much better the new version could be. Without a doubt, the 870 is a photo printer that rivals pro labs. Highly recommended. The black and white printing is laser sharp and very fast. For a hundred bucks you shoud'nt hesitate.

You're not going to get a better printer for only $100. Definitely lab quality, and the text and speed ain't bad at all. Also, for an Epson, it's really quiet, only 38db.

A great printer, and the ink isn't a arm and a leg. To me the only downfall was the text output isn't the greatest, unless set to high quality and not the normal or draft.

Well I think I'm going to go with this printer than. How many pages will the ink print? and How much is ink, do you just refill it or buy a new cartridge?

You cannot refill Epson printer cartridges, becuase they use a different technique of squirting the ink out (I know, I've tried it!).

They get fairly good numbers of pages out.. I never counted though!

the quality is definetly superior to competitors, my Epson Stylus Colour 600 beats my new HP 932c in terms of quality on the normal setting, though the HP is faster, and quieter (though if I compared Epsons equivalent printer to this HP, things might be different in that area as well).

I haven't yet tried out this HP printer with PhotoRet III, though, but I'd have to say, that it has to go up against some really stiff competition..

The 870 is awesome.

I recently got both ink carts from Onvia for about $37(with free shipping).
If you dont want it for $100, gimme the guys name, my dad's looking to get one too.

The only downside is the cost of premium glossy photo paper. :(

Anyone know of some paper outlet or something that has it for cheaper than Onvia?

brett:(

I got my ink straigt from the epson store. I paid 58 for two color carts and 1 b/w. Didn't think that was too bad.
