How's the 2D quality/win2k driv... on Hercules 3D Prophet 4500 Kyro2?

I'm thinking about selling my Asus V7100 Pure Geforce2 MX and getting another videocard with tv-out...

And when surfing around and checking prices I found the extremly cheap 4500 which I know rocks in 3D, but I don't know how it's windows 2000 drivers are and how it's 2D quality is like.

My Asus card has very good 2D for being a Geforce card and I know that ATI and Matrox both rule in 2D... could the 2D filters on the 4500 be any good considering it's low price?...

...or should I get a ATI Radeon cause Matrox isn't very exciting in 3D... is the win2k drivers any good for Radeon cards?

...or 🙂 should I feed the giant once more and get a faster geforce with tv-out?

sorry i dunno bout the Kyro II, but the Radeon's 2D image quality in Win2k looks good to me. I think Direct3D and OpenGL performance are almost up to Win98 levels now also.

Hey there. I just got a Hercules 4500 the other day and i've gotta say 2D quality rocks. I used to have a Geforce2 MX, and the 2D quality sucked at 1600x1200 or higher, but on the Kyro II it's nice and crisp. Reminds me of my G400...

Performance/price wise the Kyro II is a great chip/card which is why i bought one. Im not gonna shell out £300 for a GF3 card which wont be cutting edge come 4 months time.

I've had no probs. 3D wise either. All my games work superb. Emperor: BFD now plays at 1600x1200, 32-bit colour with everything set to high. the GF2MX could barely manage 800x600...

2D quality on the Kyro 2 is quite nice, definitely far better then most MX cards.
Win2k drivers are pretty good, their not perfect but more then suitable. Performance between 9X and 2k is basically nothing, and game compatibility seems very good, with only a few games having very small issues.

Driver updates have been quite frequent also.
