Hows that V6 in the Mustang?

KDOG

Diamond Member
I am looking into getting a new used car before summer and I was kinda thinking of the Mustang... I don't get into the racing and what not so the V6 would seem like it would suit me. Anyone have it? How is it? If I decide I want more power in the future, is it modable?

it's a V6 pony car, otherwise known as a chick car. They actually have Estrogen pumps in the seats to give you more of that feminine touch.

I drove one of these as a rental car for about a week and enjoyed it for the most part. I tend to agree that, in principle, V-6 pony cars are not the most masculine things in the world, but nowadays the V-8 Mustangs do not have "MUSTANG GT" molded into the bumper anymore, so visually the V-6 and V-8 cars are quite similar, easing the sting! The V-6 is pretty torquey, and with a stick the car has enough grunt to make it pretty fun to drive. The car has the same ergonomic eccentricities as the V-8 car (like the weird canted shifter), which in this context are actually kind of appealing, in that they give you the sensation of driving a real pony car.

<< the mustang's 3.8L V6 is sooo good, it gets owned by mitsu's 3.0L V6. go for the V8. >>

Flamebait!

Different cars, different purposes. If you want to compare a Eclipse GT to a Mustang, compare it to a GT or a Cobra.

And as long as I'm being an ass, lets compare Mitsu's 3.0L V6 to VW's 2.8L V6 (VR6 specifically), Chevy's Vortec 4200 I6 and 3.8L V6, and Ford's 3.0L Duratec V6.

KDOG If you're already concerned that it might not be enough power, then I'd suggest you go for the Mustang GT. The 3.8L V6 is a decent motor for getting around and its fairly reliable, but it does lack in the balls department when it comes to racing.

the easiest way to tell if its a V6 or not is to look at the exhaust pipe. V6's have the single exhaust, while the V8's have dual. I dont know many people who would buy a V6 pony car and and add dual exhaust, except for valhalla.

Oh yeah, V6 is sufficient for getting around places, especially in a two seater. I manage to put up with 3.3L V6 in nearly two ton van...

My friend has a 2000 Mustang, V6 coupled with slushie box and silver body, Looks pretty nice. She likes it quite a bit. As far as I'm concerned, she doesn't have a clue what kind of engine she has 😱

how's that flamebait? go ahead and compare vw's 2.8L VR6 to ford's [/b]3.8L V6[/b]. i think it's a waste of a liter.

My Sister and her husband bought one about 15 months ago and are thrilled with it. Never a problem except it is lousy in snow and ice as far as traction goes.

The V6 is a decent engine, had a rented Mustang V6 convertable and it wasn't like the car couldn't get out of its own way or anything. The V6 is perfectly adequate if you're just tooling around. And if you really want more power later on, there are places that sell superchargers for the V6 which would bring it up to the power of the V8 in the GT. Another benefit is that the V6 will save you a little bit on insuurance.

EDIT: MonkOnXanax, you're absolutely right. How dare a man cosider something practical. He should just choose to waste his money on a V8 he doesn't need or even want.

Really? I didn't know you could get one with a 3.0 V6 for ~$14.5, did you? Oh wait you can't. For the price of Mitsu's V6 you can get a GT (or a Z28) and smoke it up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down again and again and again and again....

perhaps i should explain myself. he wants to get a MUSTANG. to me that name means something, and i don't think of the v6 as a MUSTANG.

btw, thanks for the votes. real classy. "we don't like what he's saying so lets give him a bad rating. ha... haha... hahahahaha":disgust:

The V6 is an ok car. it makes jsut shy of 200hp, which isn't bad, but it's not the same as the 265hp GT, either. If you don't really care to go fast, you'll probably have fun with the V6. The problem with mustangs is that once you have one, you start hanging out with Mustang people, and they start to rub off on you, and then you want it to go fast, so then you sell the V6 and buy a V8. I've seen it happen more than once.

As it is right now, I'd rather buy a used GT than a new V6, but that's my preference.

There not bad. I really don't like the automatic with the V6, I'd get a stick, but that is just my driving habits. My aunt has a grey 2001 V6. Very nice car, but it's got the auto. 🙁

I'll still stick with the V8's and turbo 2.3's though.

LMAO! Someone who actually cares about his rating. The average rating around here is something like 3. Live with it.

Also, as I often have to explain to very young children (and unfortunately almost as often to people my own age), "It's not what you say. It's how you say it.". You have consistantly offered your views in only a confrontational and potentially ofensive manner. I suggest that you learn to temper your presentation style or buy asbestos long-johns.

LMAO!... and this coming from someone who has his turned off and gets off by giving people lower ratings. all i said was that mitsu's 3.0L v6 was better than ford's 3.8L v6. if you can't handle that OPINION, you need help. perhaps you miss the first reply by iamwiz82? or the second one by Laust? or the third one by Don_Vito?

who is to say Zenmerzolt rated you?

<<and this coming from someone who has his turned off and gets off by giving people lower ratings...perhaps you miss the first reply by iamwiz82? or the second one by Laust? or the third one by Don_Vito?>>

First, I don't rate people. I was merely pointing out that low ratings are very common around ATOT and that they are meaningless.

Second, my ratings are off because I was sick of newbies who thought it was actually important claiming that I must not know much or I'd have a higher rating. It wasn't worth the effort. If you like, I'm quite willing to turn them back on for the day so that you can give me that "1" you would like to. PM me if you wish me to actually do that. It's all the same to me.

Third, iamwiz has been around for long enough that people know he's joking around. LAUST's first line is a joke (hence the "😉"). Don_Vito's post, while having similar substance to your post, is presented in a vastly more congenial manner.

Finally, KDOG, sorry to take up your thread space with this. Normally I would have PM-ed this but Xanax doesn't have PM's enabled. To Xanax, have a nice day.

Yay, i'm known as a sarcastic clown! 😉

heh. lesson #1: stay out of V6 mustang/camaro threads.

ps: i don't really care about ratings, i just find it funny/sad how many people use ratings to "get back" at people.
