How's SONY Monitors nowadays ??

hey, i was wondering whats up w/SONY monitors nowadays? do they still hold up to the competition? i ve been getting mixed reports lately, some folks are saying SONY monitors are not quite as good as they used to be quality/realiability wise? i was particularly interested in the 410R model myself (the 19" one), how does it compare to top of the line 19" units from viewsonic/hitachi/samsung etc??

thanks:evil:

i use Sony 19" HMDA440. very nice. i love the virtually flat screen and its crisp sharp and bright image quality. i have no complaints here. Far better than my old Sony 17" 200ES trinitron in image quality wise.

I don't know about that particualr model you're asking about, but we have 2 Sony monitors here at the house - The E540 and the G520P. Both stack up as having better specs than the best from the mfgs you named. (high resolutions/refresh rates/dot pitch/etc) There is a misconception by many people that each and every CRT monitor you buy is going to be perfect. With the manufacturing process, getting a perfect monitor is often a matter of luck and making a choice about what you can and cannot live with. Buy from a reputable (preferably local) dealer with a good return policy is the lesson here.

The Sonys we have here are great - and came that way out of the box.

Sony monitors have been more than great, but they are priced much higher than other monitors. I don't think price/performance ratio for Sony monitors are that great. If I were to buy a monitor right at this moment, I would go with some other brand. Just my opinion though...

I have owned most major brands of monitors and a SONY was the only one that failed on me. They have great image quality though.

thats what i heard as well! but what are the odds to get a defective SONY unit? less than 1 out of 5?

indeed, i dont particularly feel like ordering one online, would f-ing cost me a fortune to ship that 19" monster back to wherever it came from!! ;-) tho they do cost like a good $100 more over here in canada.. 😉

sony crts always seem to be of the highest quality. their lcds are pretty average to poor.

🙂

I have a 17" Sony HMD-A240 CRT and I love it. Got it open box at Best Buy for $200 a year or so back and haven't regretted it. I replaced it with a ViewSonic that I got at a computer show for $40 but the Sony's going back on my desk the next time I rip my system apart. Now if it wasn't that stupid purpley gray color....

Unfortunately the CRT on my nearly 3 year old 19" G400P was starting to go, so I phoned up Sony on Monday afternoon and explained the problem to their tech support ... today, being Wednesday - a brand new G420P arrived which has a warrantee until Jan 2006! Really cant fault their UK support, but I've only had to deal with them the once! 😀

If you don't mind paying extra for SONY, get Mitsubishi instead. I think it has a better image quality/sharpness than Sony.
