How's my nose?

Mrvile

Lifer
I was bored.

So I loaded up Maya PLE for the first time in a few months just to screw around, and within a few minutes I made this quick nose model. Didn't look that bad, I thought to myself, might as well load it up into ATOT! 🙂

I made kind of a "worklog" of the few steps I took at the end...

Here's the original, blocky, nose model - I started with a single plane, extrude/merge edge until I made half of the nose, then mirror geometry and merged both sides together.

Here's another angle - For the nostrils I used extrude/resize face.

Here's what it looked like after the first "smooth polygon" - Something weird going on by the far left and right edges of the nostrils, gotta fix those.

Here's another angle - Ahh, that's why it looked screwy. It connected the vertices down by where the top of the upper lip would be.

Here's after I fixed the vertices - I just brought the vertices up a bit on both sides.

Here's the final render - After two more "smooth polygons" and it's starting to look like a nose.

Here's another angle - Nostrils look alright, although you can still see where it screwed up a little. I'll let it go because this was just a quick sketch.

Here's another angle, showing polygons - So many polygons! 😛

Here's another angle, with polygons again - Top of the nose looks nice.

How does it look? I really don't know much about doing this kind of work, I downloaded Maya PLE a few months ago and everything's pretty much self taught. I have absolutely no idea how to add textures and stuff, I've tried going through a few tutorials but they've all left me totally 😕. Oh well, modeling is fun.

Sorry about the watermarks on the renders guys, that's the disadvantage of using PLE, which is a free program.

not bad. i got into maya for a while. i finished my M3 about 60% then just stopped doing it, I ran out of free time to mess around with it.

modeling definitely is fun, but it takes a lot of time and patience to get a good end result. i also learned on my own. i wish i had more time to screw around with it, because its definitely cool and fun to do.

PS. from the looks of it, it looks like you have WAY too many polygons than really necessary for that nose heh.

Look at my computer and you'll know that I can have as many as I want. 😉

this is pretty much the ugliest nose ever made.

i'm kidding  nice work man, i'm going to pick up Maya once i get in college
