I have FS2004 and can say it's an improvement on the previous version. It's not that the graphics are a lot better or anything like that but it's lots of smaller changes that make the whole program run a lot smoother. I have noticed that scenery updates dont make the game jerky any more plus weather effects are better. If you are an avid Flight Sim fan then you must buy this version but there is nothing that new to attract the casual user.

System requirements are a tad steeper because of the weather. It's not much different than 2002 except for the weather. I don't mess with it very often, but my dad, an ex-pilot, loves it. And just so ya know... Flight Sim is a simulation... that's what it's designed to be, it's not designed for Joe Schmo to go zip around the country. If you don't know anything at all about flying, you'll have a hard time controlling the aircraft, and a very difficult time landing one... especially if you have wind turned on.
Like I said, it's very demanding in terms of the hardware required if you want much detail. The minimum I'd recommend is an XP2200 or P4 2.4 Ghz processor... 512 MB of RAM... and at the very least, a GeForce4 Ti4200.
