Have people had good experiences with that similar setup or any of the componets?

damn ..3 componets and close to 800. =(

guess imma spend my 800 on an AMD full configured computer. It's too bad cause i was really thinking about P4. After seeing the list, that's painful.

Good job! Should be a flying and screaming machine.

yea the ram really kills it...1 gig will last me a while though..at least it better.

edit: didnt get the 3.0 cause the performance gains from 2.8 to 3.0 are small and the 2.8 can oC, and its a lot cheaper .test.

As I understand it now, Half Life 2 will require some kind of video card.

As I understand it now, the Radeon 9800 Pro is a video card.

Were you just kidding or did you really mean that...

I mean, WTH would it require a video card. I mean, I know its going to be one of the most advanced video games, but that doesn't mean anything, now does it?

Nice system, should be great for playing HL2. I'm looking to build a new p4 system but jeez, $800 for those 3 components..little bit more than I can probably afford. Oh well, I'll just get a 2.4C and 512mb ram instead, should still be enough for HL2 :)

Don't mind him...

That looks pricey... Wouldn't an IS7 + 2.4C/2.6C + High quality PC35/3700 do the same job for a bit less? I mean hey it looks good but the components aren't the most value minded

It was a joke, since he didn't list a vid card, but then the original poster went back and edited his post, making me look like an ass hat.

Either he has some kind of time-travel device or you are an asshat.

If you really need a fast rig for now get a 2500+ barton system and oc it. Since HL2 won't be out till next year, I would definetly wait if you want a rig for it. The AMD64 is coming out and the supposed 2x as fast as now ATi cards are coming too. Who knows what the hardware scene will look like then.

I'm pretty sure that it only keeps track of the FIRST time that a post is edited...in which case, he could be telling the truth. All-in-all, it doesn't matter. I bet HL2 will run on my old 100MHz...Oh, wait...It's just a game! Guess what? They aren't going to release a game that 9/10s of the world's population can't play because they upgraded their system just a few months before the game's release! If you have anything near sub-top of the line...I.E. 2.0GHz+ or 2100+ and a videocard such as a 9500Pro, 9600pro, GF4 THEN YOU"LL BE ABLE TO PLAY IT! Damn, man. Seriously.

Blasphemer! To suggest that we shouldn't spend thousands to play HL2 is surely the word of Satan! Burn ye witch, burn on our monsterously overclocked video cards!

It keeps track of all edits. Just take a glance at a FS/FT thread before and after sales, it changes all the time. But you're right, it doesn't really matter.

ahah i edited that post with the video card comment about 30 seconds after the post. anyway, its not a whole system its just ram, mobo/cpu/ and vid card. you know, the stuff that matters for FPS.

right now im running on a 3 year old 1.3 t-bird, 256 megs ram, and a7a266 mobo, which isnt bad (for cs) this upgrade will last me another 3 years and this will also be my doom3/world of warcraft upgrade ;p

Looks good and should have some great overclocking potential... Just drop the low latency and go for some "regular" 3200 or some PC 3500 for the same price...

:)

Newb questions

What components would you need to build a compareable AMD system to his? Total Price?

Basically couldn't you do this for cheaper?

Is a P4 better for gaming then AMD? (Yes or No Answer Only) I am not trying to start a flame war.

Here's a crazy thought....do some googling, check out some review sites, and see how they stack up in cpu/motherboard reviews. Now, I know this is not as easy as tallying up yes and no answers, but you'll be smarter for it in the long run.
