Just contacted Danger Den about an Eheim 1250 I got from them about three months ago. It started out nice and quiet, but it's gotten progressively louder, to the point that it emits this high-pitched rattle that can be heard from across the room. It's not vibration (I've got the whole thing suspended in midair, bungee-style), so I thought the impeller might be coming loose. Anyhoo, I emailed DD and they confirmed that was probably the problem, and that if I would be so kind as to mail them the pump they'd take a look at it.
Is it really worth spending twenty bucks shipping a fifty-dollar pump across the continent (NYC to Oregon) and waiting god knows how long to get it fixed? Is DD generally good about this sort of thing, i.e. prompt?
Have any of you guys reseated the impeller on a pump? If I glue the damn thing on, to defeat the anti-obstruction design feature that allows the impeller to spin loosely (appropriate in an aquarium setting, useless in a PC), will the Zerex I use as an additive corrode any particular type of glue?
Any general recommendations for this situation?
Grrr. 😕
