Howdy all ive surfed your site for a while now and just signed up it is time for me to upgrade into a new rig and could use a little help
I have a idea for my plan and would like the approval from the gurus here
I have read the cpu build for noobs and surfed threw the forums

here is my current rig i would love to scrap as much as possible from this to put into my new rig (which wont be much to scrap)
current rig
HP xl 876 pavilion
1.2 amd athlon
maxtor 80 gig sata
80 gig WD sata
512 k pc 133
stock PS
ATI radeon 9700 pro
audigy sound blaster
16x10x40 cd rw lite on
xp pro
thats about it , im looking for a gaming cpu mostly and here is my idea of the one to build

and for the Build

A-Top Green X-Blade AT859-GR Ultimate Gaming ATX Case w/ 400W Power Supply I own this Box already
link here http://www.dealsonic.com/agrxatulgaat.html

would like to use the 9700 and the sound card if needed , on board sound is ok also

mobo
Gigabyte GA-K8NS-939 nForce3 Ultra

CPU
amd 3000+939

graphic
9700 pro (from old one)

maxtor 80 gig sata (from old one)
80 gig WD sata (from old one)

mem
Corsair Value Select (Dual Pack) 184 Pin 512MBx2 DDR PC-3200 $91.00

16x10x40 cd rw lite on (from old one)

would like to toss in a dvdrw but as it is money is short that may be down the raod

I do not plan on over clocking , but would like to toss in a higher end cpu when prices fall
any help , or suggestions on this build will be greatly appreciated
once i have all my parts in palce , it will be fun First Build :)

sata drives? in a old 1.2Ghz athlon? does it have a sata pci card or something?

id defo splash out on a new PSU, its always worth it to have a solid brand name donning your PSU.

you may have trouble with that Gigabyte mobo and the RAM, my freind got the same mobo and corsair ram and it was a headache right up n till he RMA'd the ram, for yet more corsair (better stuff this time) and it still refused to work with more than one stick

the 3000+ should OC nicely even though u say your not going to. 3000+ winnies have been getting routine 2.5-2.7Ghz.

you should be fine with on board sound

that 9700pro can still cut it as a decent gaming card, but dont expect wonders. you'll be mostly limited to 12x10/10x7 for most games, and thats with out AA and AF, but if your on a tight budget theres nothing you can do.

i would wait tbh, 1 or 2 months more, we got dual cores coming, and new graphics cards etc so you could find something nice.

i would check b-grade and clearence stock, at least at the place i shop here inthe UK they have a clearence line and a B_grade line (usually RMA, or incomplete products..(but who cares if u dont get IDE cables with a new mobo?))

ive got some wicked stuff off there...works well too, not a single failure.

my advice : wait

if you cant wait : then doesnt look too shabby, jus get a good make PSU and ur good to go

Your power supply looks to me like its an el cheapo. I would not put all that expensive equipment in a system and hook it up to that. There is only 1 fan in the power supply and I cannot tell what the ratings for it are.

I shall also recommend a good quality power supply. My current favorite is Seasonic - quiet, and efficient.
You don't eat junky food yourself, so you shouldn't feed your PC crap either.
