I drilled a hole above the cabinet over the microwave which has an outlet to run power for it (so you can't see wires at all for it....

you can see the lighting effects in my pics above...

I did the same thing in our old house and our new house also but as under cabinet lighting. Makes a HUGE difference and its so cheap and easy to set up. I should put some above the cabinets as well to accent the area.

This is something I did a little while back. I was wandering Lowe's and found these little trays that turn those false panels in front of your sink into a little more useful space:
