it's alright guys, i expected it anyway...besides, look at it this way.

-LOTR's one film split into 3 parts for logical reasons.
-It's all of the same caliber since it was all done at once by the same people at the same time.
-13 noms is nothing to be ashamed of...think of all the movies that didn't even get nominations.
-I think it will be much the same next year. lots of noms, but very few awards. however, once the third movie is out it will get awards out the wazoo. it wouldn't be fair to have LOTR sweep 3 years in a row and shut out all the other films. :)
-TTT and ROTK were hell of a lot better books than FOTR, chances are the movies will be the same.

It didn't even win for best adapted screenplay? WTF? Boyens and Jackson did an outstanding job. What won, A Beautiful Mind? They cut so much out of the book and didn't put it in the movie, I can't see how!

Did anybody else think that Whoopie Goldberg's jokes about the lack of black hobbits was retarded?

All of Whoopie's jokes were terrible. What a snore.

I'm telling you guys...wait until March 2004 when it's the 2003 oscars. gonna be a repeat of titanic-like awards.

Yes I do, thank you very much. Listen, the oscars dont always go to thsoe who deserve them. Can you honestly tell me its easier to direct LotR than ABM? I don't complain about Best Picture, since I know they wouldnt give it to the first one, but director should have definately been given to LotR.

Also, why are the REALLY good movies not up there? Last year, Requiem for a Dream should have easily won Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Cinematography and Best Music, but was only nominated for one and didnt win anything.

This year, what about Memento? It could have easily beat AMB for best picture, but it wasn't even nominated.

Oscars ARE a sham.

I agree, Memento is probably one of the best movies I've seen - EVER. And it didn't even get a nomination?

It did...for original screenplay, but it lost. To Gosford Park i believe.

More proof that some of the academy members were on crack this year!

Once again, like you know better. What makes you an expert in filmmaking? And if you are the expert you try to project, why don't you do it for a living?

I love how when it comes to movies, everyone knows how to make a film better, but has no idea what actually goes into making them.

A Beautiful Mind and Godsford Park had them (one for original, the other for previously published)

LotR should have won Previously published, and Memento for Original, but......

Yeah, 8 year project vs. cookie-cutter try-to-get-to-your-sensitive-side movie.

Don't get me wrong, ABM was a GOOD movie, but PJ had much more of an achievment in directing. What he pulled off is what no other director wanted to even bother attempting. But like I said earlier, I predict that sadly he won't be recognized until ROTK. Ron Howards was partly a pity win anyway, it was almost in the bag.

I have to disagree. 2001 was an absolutely miserable year for movies...if LOTR couldn't pull it out this time it probably never will. There will always be Oscar bait like ABM around to clean up at the awards, and the Academy hates genre films (Westerns, horror, fantasy, etc.).

Only one film was nominated, not all three.
