Well my dad came home and told me yesterday a lady has a problem setting up her internet and it's not working.
Well, I took the job and went there to set it up. Turns out she was still trying to connect through her 56k and hasn't even opened the DSL box.
Well I turn on the computer and lo and behold the MX500 I sold to them a year ago doesn't work. Turns out they replaced the NiMH batteries with Alkaline batteries, looking at the pile of dead batteries they had I pretty much knew what they did.
Anyways, after the battery issue was resolved, the computer's infested, I mean CRAWLING with spyware. Clicking the "show hidden icons" arrow would put cover the entire task bar with useless junk!
Anyways, I tried setting up a network because I didn't want to use the SBC dsl crap. Turns out they now have a system where you have to install their crap first in order to start up DSL.
Next up was the stupid Norton. It refused to let me connect to the home office. It just simply wouldn't.
By this time it was getting late, and I had to run. So I told them I'd come back and finish tommorow.
Today I come back armed with SP2 ad-aware, spybot, and CWS (I just knew they would have this), little did I know I should have brought hijackthis with me too.
Well running adaware prompted a NT/AUTHORITY to reboot the computer within 40 seconds. Well crap that's not going to work. So boot into safe mode, and run both 1200 critical objects in adaware, and I ran it AFTER spybot which found 378. I've seen more too, but still nothing to scoff at. Ran CWS next.
Well after all of this Norton refused to uninstall. (Great) after about 30 mins I finally get it to get done.
Set up the internet and then updated the definitions, put tea time, SP2, and ran everything again. Cleaned up add/remove progs in their computer and their daughters laptop.
Well after all this they asked how much they owe me. I thought about it and said $100.
Did I ask too much? Or not enough. I put in about 6 total.
