i believe you download that>>Extract everything into ProgramFiles/Chessbrain/ Install it (using install.exe) A config file will be created (cbsn)

. This is what it looks like...I'll highlight the important parts:

#
# CBSPN Server
# configuration file
#

# Set UserID (you may use an email address or your name.
# For example:
# uid=Johnny Smith
# uid=johnny_smith@temple.com
uid=Overkiller <---- your name

# Set DC team name
teamname=TEAMANANDTECH <--- Teamanandtech :) [JUST LIKE THAT, case sensitive]

# Proxy Server
# If you're using a Proxy Server enter the IP address and Port below
#proxyaddr=192.168.1.1
#proxyport=6738
proxyaddr=*
proxyport=*

# Text Display mode
# no don't display text
# yes display text output
# Note: first test the client using the yes option.
# when you are sure the client is working correctly, you may switch
# the display setting to no
display=no <-- set to no

# CPU usage
# above_normal run above normal priority
# below_normal run above idle priority but below normal priority
# normal will run at normal priority
# low will run at idle priority
# Note: Under Microsoft Windows above_normal and below_normal
# are only supported under Windows 2000 and XP. If you are running
# windows and are not using Win2K or XP, make sure to use the low
# or normal priority only.
cpuuse=below_normal <-- i have it on below_normal which means when it runs it takes over main
DC client over SETI..you should leave it on "low"

# Memory usage
# max uses 128 Megs of RAM
# high uses 64 Megs of RAM
# mid uses 32 Megs of RAM
# low uses 16 Megs of RAM
# Warning, on a 128 meg system do not use the max setting!
# You should not use more than half of your available system memory
# if you wish to run other applications while the PeerNode is processing.
memory=mid <-- i dont believe memory matters that much. You can leave it on 16 MB , which = low

# Specify the total number of processors that PeerNode should use
processors=1 <--- 1 processor. If you have a HT capable machine i'll instruct you later

# The PeerNode client is able to keep itself up to date by downloading
# and installing an update of itself when a new one becomes available.
#
# autoupdate=yes to accept autoupdating
# autoupdate=* to avoid using autoupdating
autoupdate=yes <--- Yes

# PeerNode Network Monitor Server
# Enter the IP address of the PeerNode Network Monitor Server
# The server uses port 3434, so you may need to open it on your firewall
netmon=coolkidsserver.no-ip.com <--- this is just a cool monitor to see ur stats

# Internet Country Code
# Enter the two letter country code if you wish to contribute to our
# world map display. For example if your country is Singapore:
# country=SG
# If you do not wish to use this feature make sure that the country=* below.
#
# If you enter an invalid country code, the server will ignore your entry.
#
country=US <---- your Country...

Save it and your done...oh..yeah...the 2 files "start and STOP" are to start and stop the service. After you install it see if CB.exe is running under your processes tab (ctrl+alt+delete). if it is then you did it successfully!. Just make sure its installed as a service by typing services.msc in your RUN prompt and seeing that it is there as a service...

Also, a note about CB...it is not a 24/7 DC project...work comes intermitently with work sometimes not showing up for quite a few hrs..the work is done rather quickly and passed back to server...hence that is why CB is a great companion project to any other DC program out there b/c it will only impact another dc client about 5%.

Finally,

CB works really really well if your online all the time (i.e. broadband) b/c the work is time-sensitive. thanks and if u have any other questions I'll try my best to answer :)

[edit] i almost forgot..if you have a HT machine (P4C) i have the file for installing 2 services so just let me know if you need it :)

Otherwise enjoy!

Well that installer now has a GUI frontend, where you can configure all the parameters in the config file :)
It also has support for installing 2 services ;)
Oh, and that will only work if you are using NT/2K/XP, if you are running win 9x, you will need to get the client from this page: http://www.chessbrain.net/downloads-peernodes.html , just make sure you get the GUI version, not the Screensaver version and set the team name to: TEAMANANDTECH (For people wondering why you would use the GUI, it is basically the CLI with a utility to hide the client and set the values in the config file :))

Looking forward to some more help with this project :)

Actually, it has been said that the memory usage doesn't really matter all that much :) Unless of course that has changed over the past couple of months ;)

Ow, another interested TeAmmATe !!

Welocme in TeAm !! CB is easy to setup, the most important part is TeAm name in cbspn.conf ['cos that's the name of file, not cbsn, OverKiller !!] !!

No spaces there, cos if you put them, you will join another team, and won't help us !!

So, TeAmAnAndTech and happy crunching !!

And Overkiller, to be sure dl PerrNode monitor - you will have info about your CB jobs !!

Basically, the amount of memory used caches previously computed responses. The more that you give it the more it can cache, speeding up the results. However, Because there are so many possible positions in chess, you need terabytes of memory to be able to cache anything. Since the most it lets you give is 128, there is only a fraction of a percent of a chance that what you need will be cached.

There is also a bug in the latest stable client version that can cause chessbrain to use 100% CPU even when it isn't crunching, if you don't use the minimum memory.

Well either address should work, they both point to the same IP. Make sure you dont put http:// in front of the address when you set it in cbspn.conf. You will also need to restart the client once you change it :)

Hopefully you will get it working :)
Oh, and as OverKiller said, I'm only on 56k, so it might be down sometimes, but I'm usually connected all the time :)
