How would you ship a scanner?

Hi,

I'm reselling my Visioneer 8100 scanner and I'm trying to figure out the best way to ship it. I got it from Staples with a shipping pouch and labels taped directly to the box, but I don't want to risk sending it to someone else like this. The problem is that I can't figure out what sort of box to put this thing in because it's pretty long.

How would you ship this scanner? Would you just do what Staples did and put labels on the scanner box and ship it that way or try and fabricate a box to double box it for shipping?

BTW.. I'm pretty sure all scanner boxes are like this. This was the same way my Microtek scanner was shipped to me.

So.. If anyone has ever double boxed a scanner and shipped it, please let me know what you used and where I might find something like this?

TIA,

Sal

Is there a lever or switch or something that will "lock" the scanning thing in place. A scanner we bought a few months ago has a switch like this so the scanning device doesn't move around and get damaged during shipment. Definitely lock it if you can before shipping.

Heh.. It's sealed in the box. I decided against keeping it, so I decided to sell it instead of returning it. I would hope that the button is locked, so it woudn't damage anything.

My question is concerning the box. It got a little beat up while it was being shipped to me and since I would have to ship it again, I was trying to find a way to double box it, so I wouldn't have to just slap a label on the manufacturer's box and ship it that way.

Should I bother to double box it or just ship it the way it was shipped to me by Staples?

Thanks again,

Sal

It will be much easier to collect insurance if you double-box, at least with UPS.
